2016 Pacific Coast Senior & Family Championships

May 25 - May 30, 2016

pcs_logo_2016 The Berkeley Tennis Club was proud to host the 2016 Pacific Coast Senior & Family Championships. This was a very special time to be at Berkeley Tennis Club, because we were once again selected by USTA to host this Category II USTA National Tournament event. We encourage all seniors and families to register to play in next year’s championships, or simply come out as a spectator and a guest of Berkeley Tennis Club, where tennis history is made.

Pacific Coast Senior & Family Championships
At-A-Glance

For more than 25 years, the Pacific Coast Senior & Family Championships has been a vital part of the USTA Northern California tennis landscape. The 2016 edition will be played May 25 – 30 at the Berkeley Tennis Club (BTC). Several years ago, the event was upgraded, becoming a Category II USTA National Tournament – attracting an even wider range of competitors from both the United States and throughout the world.

The venue is a worthy fit for an event of this stature. The BTC’s long tradition of first-rate tennis goes back to its beginnings in 1906. Hall of Famers such as Hazel Hotchkiss (later Wightman), Helen Wills, Helen Jacobs were members. Other greats such as Don Budge Billie Jean King have competed frequently on the club’s ten courts. From 1918 to 1971, the BTC hosted the Pacific Coast Championships -- the same ATP World Tour event that eventually relocated to the Cow Palace in San Francisco and the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Champions at the BTC included Stan Smith, Arthur Ashe and Rod Laver.

According to General Manager Jeremy Gregory, “The Pacific Coast Senior & Family Championships is an exciting time to be at BTC. This event bridges the span of generations with parents playing with their children in a sport they all love. The vibe around the club for these designated 6 days is like no other week at the club in the year. We welcome you to play, enjoy and spectate.”
